Announcement of Participation in the "Fry to Fly Project," a Project for Realizing a Decarbonized Society Where Aircraft Fly on Used Cooking Oil

We are pleased to announce that Kashima Antlers will be participating in the "Fry to Fly Project," a project aimed at realizing a decarbonized society through the utilization of waste cooking oil as renewable aviation fuel. Our participation in this project marks a first for a professional sports club. Going forward, we will supply waste cooking oil used at the Ibaraki Kashima Soccer Stadium and club facilities as raw material for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

What are the "Fry to Fly Project" and "SAF"?

The "Fry to Fly Project" is a project that aims to create a world where aircraft can fly by utilizing waste cooking oil generated in homes, restaurants, and other establishments. As of December 19, 2024, 185 companies, local governments, and organizations are participating in this project, aiming to create an environment for the collection of waste cooking oil as a resource and to promote resource circulation for decarbonization. Furthermore, "SAF" stands for "Sustainable Aviation Fuel," which means sustainable aviation fuel. By using waste cooking oil and biomass as raw materials for aviation fuel, it becomes a next-generation energy resource that can significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared to conventional fossil fuels. In the aviation industry, the introduction of SAF is attracting global attention as an initiative to achieve carbon neutrality. Antlers noticed the affinity with the SAF field as a social contribution activity for a community-based club, given that our activity area in the Hokota region of Ibaraki Prefecture is close to an international airport. Through our participation in the "Fry to Fly Project," the first for a professional sports club, we aim to utilize waste cooking oil generated at the Ibaraki Kashima Soccer Stadium and club facilities, and become a model case for a sustainable society. ■ About the "Fry to Fly Project"

Waste cooking oil collection at the stadium to begin with the Machida match (12/8)

Since July 2024, we have been piloting the collection of waste cooking oil at Yuhi Dormitory, which will be the top team players' dormitory, and at the Academy House where youth players live. From September, we also started piloting it at the clubhouse cafeteria where top team players eat. On Sunday, December 8, at the 38th round of the 2024 Meiji Yasuda J1 League match against FC Machida Zelvia, we began collecting waste cooking oil generated at stadium concession stands for the first time at a home game. Going forward, we will increase the amount of waste cooking oil collected to ensure a stable supply of SAF to nearby airports. In the future, we plan to continuously fuel aircraft departing from and arriving at airports near our hometown, and also to supply SAF to aircraft used by our players for domestic and international expeditions. The entire club will promote activities that create sustainable value to contribute to the local environment and the future of society. photo
