China - Shanghai Expedition (8/12)

The YOUTH INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE CUP reached its final day, and Antlers played against Shanghai Port in the 7th/8th place play-off.

In the morning, we took a walk and did exercises at 6:15 AM, had breakfast from 6:30 AM, and prepared for the match. However, the bus, scheduled to depart at 7:50 AM, didn't arrive, so we left the hotel for the ground around 8:45 AM.

The bus was shared with Atletico Paranaense, and our players were surprised by their style of playing music and singing together on their way to the match.

Immediately after arriving, we warmed up, and the match kicked off at 9:25 AM.

Coach Nakano strongly demanded a good attitude towards this match after yesterday's defeat.

7th/8th Place Play-off
vs Shanghai Port 2-0 (1-0) Kumazawa 2

Starting lineup: GK Kimura, DF Morishima, Kiuchi, Kobayashi, Koseki, MF Ikita, Okawa, Okano, Oyama, Odanaki, FW Kumazawa

Substitutions: Maeda, Hanawa (HT), Ito (An), Umezu (70 min), Ito (Shu) (74 min)

The match started with an immediate breakthrough.

In the 4th minute of the first half, Kobayashi's long ball struck with his left foot created the opening goal. Kumazawa then volleyed the ball into the far side net, making it 1-0.

Today, there was a lot of communication from the start, and we had a cohesive beginning.

We pressed effectively, and the number of times we won the ball increased compared to yesterday.

However, we often lost the ball immediately after winning it due to mistakes, or gave it away with simple attacks, gradually making the game difficult for ourselves.

Although we led the first half and didn't face any major threats, the players were a bit frustrated as they went into halftime.

During halftime, Coach Nakano gave instructions for the second half.

Maeda and Hanawa were brought in from the start of the second half.

Compared to the middle of the first half, the players' spacing and balance in both attack and defense improved, and there were more instances of moving the ball with good tempo.

The players were also able to communicate and think for themselves during the game.

As opportunities to spread the play from the defensive midfielders to the flanks increased, so did the number of robust side attacks from overlaps.

The defense, primarily, put their bodies on the line to thwart several dangerous situations. Then, in the 27th minute of the second half, Kumazawa tapped Morishima's low cross into the far side, securing an additional goal.

After that, all players, including the substitutes, worked hard until the end, and we finished the match with a 2-0 victory, winning our final game.

After returning to the dormitory and having dinner, we went to the Zhujiajiao Ancient Town, a tourist spot, and spent about an hour buying souvenirs and exploring.

After sightseeing, we watched the final match.

The final was between Anderlecht (Belgium) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (England).

Both teams displayed high individual skill and an intense battle.

Anderlecht scored first with a long-range shot in the first half, and Wolverhampton equalized early in the second half with a header from a corner kick.

After the equalizer, the game became relatively open, and the individual battles intensified.

In the dying minutes of the second half, the ball spilled from a set piece, and player number 7 reacted to it, delivering a cross. Player number 18 then volleyed it in, scoring the winning goal. Player number 7 was chosen as the MVP.

The team finished in 7th place, but Kumazawa was awarded the top scorer.
