Established in 1997 to recognize athletes, officials, facilities, and others who have made significant contributions to the world of sports, both in Italy and abroad, and who serve as models of fair play. The International Fair Play Mecenate Award Association organizes the event annually, with co-sponsorship from the Province of Arezzo (Tuscany, Italy) and the municipalities of Castiglion Fiorentino. In addition to the ceremony, there are talk shows by the award recipients and exchange events with local children, and the event is broadcast on Italian national television.

Zico TD was recognized for his fair play spirit, moral conduct, and sportsmanship, which he has consistently demonstrated from his days as a player to the present.
