Nine teams were divided into three groups (A, B, and C) with three teams each. The preliminary league was held on the first day, and the ranking league on the second day.
On the second day, Sagan Tosu, Kashima Antlers Tsukuba, and Kashima Antlers advanced to the first-place league. Since both Kashima Antlers Tsukuba and Kashima Antlers defeated Sagan Tosu, the winner of their direct match would be the champion. The match was tightly contested from the first half, with neither team giving an inch. However, Kashima Antlers scored the long-awaited opening goal in the second half. Kashima Antlers Tsukuba repeatedly pressed towards the goal but could not score before the end of the match. Kashima Antlers were crowned champions.
