Facility Overview

Kashima Soccer Stadium, Ibaraki Prefectural Seashore Park, was completed in April 1993 as Japan's first full-scale soccer-specific stadium. Since then, it has been a beloved symbol of the region for many prefectural residents.

Furthermore, as the home stadium of the J-League's Kashima Antlers, it has established itself as a "sacred ground for soccer." For the 2002 FIFA World Cup™, the stadium was renovated and reborn as a venue befitting the new century.

Then, in 2025, Mercari, Inc. acquired the naming rights, and from July 1, the stadium became affectionately known as "Mercari Stadium (or MeruSuta for short)."

AMENITY - Further Pursuit of Comfort

The sense of unity between the stands and the field, and the tension created by intense plays—experiences only possible in a soccer-specific stadium. Mercari Stadium incorporates various features to enhance viewer comfort, allowing fans to watch powerful plays up close and in a relaxed manner.

Easy-to-view, two-tiered stands

All spectator seats are fully independent with backs. The stand inclination is 29 degrees for the first tier and 33 degrees for the second, designed to provide an excellent view from anywhere in the stands.

Recreate a brilliant play

A large video screen has been installed, allowing you to relive the game with powerful, clear images.

Be kind to all spectators.

In addition to significantly increasing the number of women's restrooms and accessible seating, new elevators and escalators have been installed.

Facilities for international matches

It is equipped with various facilities, such as operational offices, VIP rooms, and broadcasting equipment, to accommodate international matches such as the 2002 FIFA World Cup™.

TECHNOLOGY - Trust and Pride in Our Technology

Mercari Stadium's greatest pride is its evergreen natural grass field. To create an even more perfect condition, the field was fully renovated and the latest management system was introduced.

Sprinkler

This is the first stadium in Japan used for J-League official matches to install sprinklers as a field watering system.

Underheating

To maintain vibrant green natural turf even in winter, we have adopted an under-heating system as a ground temperature control facility.

Polycarbonate sheet

Even in the enlarged stadium, transparent polycarbonate panels are used for the south-facing roof membrane to ensure maximum sunlight, which is essential for maintaining the evergreen lawn.

2002 FIFA World Cup - Dreams, Emotions, and Legends

The 2002 FIFA World Cup™ was held in the early 21st century, marking the first time it was held in Asia and the first time it was co-hosted by two countries, Japan and South Korea. In June 2002, dreams and emotions descended upon the pitch of Kashima Soccer Stadium, one of the venues for the tournament. The name "KASHIMA" was etched into history alongside a legend, as the stage for the world's greatest football.

"Memorial Tiles": A Testament to Passionate Devotion

The "Memorial Tiles" commemorate the 2002 FIFA World Cup™ held at Kashima Soccer Stadium. Made from "Kasama ware," a traditional craft of Ibaraki Prefecture, these tiles, imbued with the passion of many prefectural residents and soccer fans, adorn the stadium.
